Download a YouTube video in three steps
- Open the video or Short and copy its link from Share.

Start with one video, not a channel
Use a youtube.com/watch link, a youtu.be share link, or the address of an individual Short. A channel, search page, or playlist overview is not a single-video link. If a video is inside a playlist, open that video and copy its own share URL.
Choose picture and sound together
YouTube can deliver high-resolution picture and audio as separate tracks. Read the result label: a video-only file can be silent even when the original has sound. Select video with audio for ordinary playback and wait while any separate tracks are combined.
Choose from the resolutions shown for your link. A smaller file is easier to keep on a phone; a larger rendition may suit a bigger screen. A resolution that is not listed cannot be recovered by changing the filename.
If the link does not return a file
Check that the address opens the intended video, then copy it again without surrounding message text. Private, removed, members-only, or otherwise restricted videos are outside this public-link workflow.
After saving, check the browser’s Downloads list. On iPhone, start in Files; move a compatible video to Photos through the share menu if needed.
Choose a dedicated output
For listening, use YouTube to MP3. For a video file, use YouTube to MP4. If a saved clip is silent, see video with audio.
